Dr. Bravada M. Garrett-Akinsanya is a seasoned licensed clinical psychologist with over 30 years of experience. Specializing in diversity, developmental psychology, and African-American mental health, she uses a strength-based approach to work with children, adults, couples, and families, especially those who have experienced abuse, trauma, or violence. Her therapeutic strategy blends humor, hard work, experiential learning, and resilience to create an environment conducive to healing.
Dr. Garrett-Akinsanya advocates for equitable mental health services and serves in leadership roles across several organizations. She co-founded the African American Child Wellness Institute and is the President of Brakins Consulting and Psychological Services. She's held key roles in organizations like the Minnesota Psychological Association and the Society for the Psychology of Women of the American Psychological Association. Known for her expertise in treating African American, bi-racial, and female clients, she carries a certificate from the Minnesota Board of Social Work and a Diplomate in Black Psychology.
